Impact of a Religious Household
Religion is beneficial in children's development for 3 reasons. One of the most important is morality. When a child is raised with no rules and thinks of the world around them as just having happened to exist they lack reasons for right and wrong. If they believe there is no higher power it can be confusing and difficult to understand why they must treat others with kindness and act unselfishly. It would be significantly easier to harm others in pursuit of personal gain if they believe there isn't any higher power. The next reason is it teaches discipline. When children don't have routine such as going to church every Sunday and praying before every meal they can easily fall into unproductive and detrimental habits. They can't always have their parents playing the authority figure and because of that they might as well do what they please. With religion they are able to have their god play the authority figure. This helps them feel a sense of accountability, ownership for their actions, appreciation for their blessings, and feeling of protection. The third big beneficial part of religion is the fact that it gives purpose. The child who has a god and rules put in place by that god has a purpose in their life. They are able to work to please that god and do what that god sets out as right. Because of these three key points raising children religiously proves to be beneficial all around.
