Do Most Criminals Arise From Unhappy Homes?
Do most criminals arise from unhappy homes?
After watching a Netflix documentary called “I AM A KILLER” which interviewed inmates on death row in their final days, my attention was captured by the amount of these inmates who described there home lives in a very negative light. This made me want to investigate future to uncover any connections between these stories. I found that deep traumatic experiences in childhood were very commonly reported in cases involving criminals. A study that was conducted with 50 criminals stated that only 32% of these people did NOT face childhood trauma(Davies). Genetics also play a large role in a person’s likelihood to become a criminal. Jim Clemente, an FBI profiler, said “Genetics loads the gun, their personality and psychology aim it, and their experiences pull the trigger”(QTD in Davies). There are many factors involved in understanding why someone behaves in such a way. On the bright side, it has been proven that strong healthy families make it extremely less likely to raise violent criminals(Effects of Family…). A mothers strong attachment, religious neighborhoods, and marriage are all factors that lessen the chances of kids getting into crime.
